DEVELOPMENT

The current narrative is that the gallery owner invites in local artists to work in the studio and in return they provide works for exhibitions. I think the idea of encouraging a close relationship of the gallery with local artists helps my design to become part of the site, and takes the gallery’s role from just being a display space into a centre for cultural and community. It is important then to consider the artists' art making processes in the design; they will need to have easy access to studio and to have the ability to work privately and quietly. Following on from opening and shutting building elements, it makes sense that the gallery is totally shut down whilst the artist is working. Then as a symbol for the act of exhibiting, the building could be opened up revealing the work inside.
